Vasai Artist Observation

Vasai was a beautiful place and an amazing experience. Stepping out of the bus in which we got there, itself, had a soothing feeling to it. Surrounded with greenery all around and fresh air truly felt like we were alive.

I entered the village and tried to find one spot that inspired me to write an essay on but couldn’t find just one. There was so much happening in that tiny little village, hence the search began. The locals of the place were very supportive and suggested that I go to the beach side and might find some inspiration there. They weren’t wrong.

As I started to approach the beach, I could hear the waves splashing against the rocks and the boats swaying in the water. Moving closer to it made me feel cooler as the sea tends to do that, it pushes the wind in our direction. When I finally made it to the rocks, I saw fishermen catching fish in the nets and some of them were hooking the fish and drying them. Many fish were already hanging on hooks and being dried when I got there.

Shifting my head to the right, there was this shrine with a similar statue like Christ the Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro and had benches on either side, on which were seated these two very talented local artists looking into the sea and oblivious to everything around them except their art.

They had all their materials and belongings on the bench as well. They were so focused that when a bunch of other students and I went to the shrine and took pictures and made a lot of noise, they still sat there and painted. We didn’t want to disturb them either, thus continuing our observation.

There was also a tank just outside the shrine and just above the sea on a rock, which I think had clean fresh water, as many locals came there with buckets, filling them , some washing their body and face and leaving with buckets full of water.

The shrine was clean and gave us shade with which came cool breeze which we were very grateful because the sun was scorching hot.

It was enclosed with diamond shaped fences which to me looked very aesthetically pleasing.

Also gave me the idea of how a person can feel caged but still be creative and look beyond the cage with hope for a better future.
